HPE Serviceguard for Linux (SGLX)

Hewlett Packard Enterprise

HPE Serviceguard for Linux (SGLX) is an Enterprise class Business Continuity solution that can provide zero RPO and near zero RTO for Mission Critical Applications / Workloads through clustering. One can integrate any application with SGLX to enable High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) protection, thus increasing the uptime for your critical applications. Be it an unplanned downtime of compute, infrastructure, applications, or protection against security threats, or planned downtime situations, SGLX keeps the applications up and running, and also protects the data integrity and performance.

HPE Serviceguard for Linux (SGLX) is a High Availability and Disaster Recovery clustering software designed to protect applications / workloads from planned and unplanned downtimes. It ensures 24x7 application / workload availability by continuously monitoring the health of the infrastructure and other resources impacting their availability . Any event or failure affecting the application / workload availability, SGLX automatically moves the application and its associated resources to other servers (nodes) in the cluster. SGLX inbuilt monitors quickly responds to failures affecting the server, storage, network, SAN & LAN connectivity, data replication, processes, memory, disk, operating system, and its framework allows monitoring and responding to any custom event e.g. security vulnerabilities. SGLX also allows moving the applications within or across on-prem and cloud environments to perform system maintenance or upgrades.

The offering is available via "BYOL" and you can get a quote for licenses from HPE SGLX product page.

Pre-requisite:

  • Ensure that the operating system image selected contains the Linux Operating System Repository (Yum/Zypper).
  • Ensure that the operating system image selected contains the default kernel provided by the Operating System Vendor.

Simple Four Step Procedure to standup a workload protected by HPE Serviceguard for Linux.

  1. You need just one instance of SGMGR+ UI and Quorum Server across multiple clusters. If you do not have it already, select Centralized Serviceguard Management and Arbitration Instance from dropdown of SGLX Azure VM extension and create one. If you already have it then you can skip this step.
  2. Provision Serviceguard Cluster Nodes for the workload of your choice by selecting the appropriate Serviceguard Add-on from dropdown of SGLX Azure VM Extension.
  3. Install and configure the application on the systems provisioned in step 2. If desired application is already installed and configured on the selected nodes then you can skip this step.
  4. From SGMGR+ Graphical User Interface (refer Step 1):
    1. Navigate to HA-DR Platform under Infrastructure menu option, and follow the on-screen instructions to create a HA-DR Platform (cluster) of the nodes provisioned in Step 2
      OR
    2. Navigate to Deploy under Workloads menu option, and follow the on-screen instructions to bring your workload in the purview of SGLX cluster on the nodes provisioned in Step 2

HPE SGLX latest version 15.30.00 is a simplified offering with two foundational editions:

HPE Serviceguard for Linux high availability (HA) E5 edition edition is the high availability offering to protect the applications using single target data replication, or having a shared storage. .

HPE Serviceguard for Linux high availability (HA) plus disaster recovery (DR) E7 edition brings in automated and push button disaster recovery capabilities in addition to E5 capabilities. For example, customers can configure an automated recovery on a near DR site and a push-button recovery on a far DR site. SGLX E7 edition is required for deployments using more than one target replication, as well as in the deployments needing DR capabilities across on-prem, cloud, or HPE GreenLake.

HPE SGLX offers several add-ons for popular enterprise applications and databases to enable seamless out-of-the-box integration into an HPE Serviceguard cluster. The portfolio includes add-on integration for

  • SAP (SAP HANA®, SAP S/4HANA®, SAP NetWeaver®, NFS),
  • Oracle®,
  • Microsoft SQL Server on Linux, and
  • NFS

HPE SGLX also has a generic toolbox that allows integrating any custom application with SGLX to enable HA / DR for the application.

HPE Serviceguard for Linux Centralized Management and Quorum Arbitration brings in a centralized Grapchical user Interface to Administer and Manage SGLX Clusters, Workloads and also provide Quorum for SGLX clusters. To Launch SGMGR+ https://hostname_of_sgmgr+:5511
